Named
One of the Top Ten Films of 2002 by the National Board of Review
Director Jill Sprecher’s second feature, THIRTEEN CONVERSATIONS
ABOUT ONE THING, had its U.S. premiere at the 2002 Sundance Film
Festival as part of the American Showcase section. Previously,
the film screened at the 58th Annual Venice International Film
Festival as part of the festival's Cinema of the Present Competition
and at the 2001 Toronto International Film Festival in the Special
Presentations division. The film - now available on VHS and DVD
through Columbia TriStar Home Video - was Sony Pictures Classics'
most successful release of 2002.
The film, co-written by Jill and Karen Sprecher, was shot on location
in New York City. Echo Lake Productions provided a significant
portion of the film’s financing.
The Sprecher sisters’ first film, Clockwatchers, premiered
at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival and starred Toni Collette (Shaft,
The Sixth Sense), Parker Posey (Josie and the Pussycats, Scream
3), and Lisa Kudrow (Lucky Numbers, Hanging Up). Clockwatchers
won the top prize at the 15th Turin International Young Cinema
Festival, the first English language film to do so in five years.
THIRTEEN CONVERSATIONS ABOUT ONE THING is executive produced by
Michael Stipe and Sandy Stern’s Single Cell Pictures (Being
John Malkovich) and produced by Gina Resnick and Beni Atoori.

THIRTEEN CONVERSATIONS ABOUT ONE
THING -
synopsis
A man approaching middle age decides to change his life. A
rising young attorney’s plans are thrown into disarray as
the result of a single act. A woman faces her husband’s infidelity.
An envious businessman seeks revenge on a cheerful coworker. And
an optimistic young cleaning woman awaits a miracle. These ordinary
people all find themselves asking the fundamental question philosophers
have pondered throughout history: What is happiness, and how does
one achieve it?
THIRTEEN CONVERSATIONS ABOUT ONE THING weaves five contemporary
stories together into a single tale that examines the dramatic
impact people have on each other’s lives. In a carefully
constructed narrative that criss-crosses in time and doubles back
on itself, the audience is allowed an unusual glimpse into a character’s
past, present, and future in ways that are alternately playful
and poignant
