Douglas Mankoff, President

Doug Mankoff has produced or executive produced fifteen films, including the Golden Globe and Academy Award nominated TSOTSI (directed by Gavin Hood and to be released by Miramax 3/06), WATER (directed by Deepa Mehta and to be released by Fox Searchlight 4/06), and TWELVE AND HOLDING (directed by Michael Cuesta and to be released by IFC 6/06). 

 

In 2001, Doug won a Peabody Award as producer of THINGS BEHIND THE SUN (directed by Allison Anders and starring Don Cheadle).   He executive produced THIRTEEN CONVERSATIONS ABOUT ONE THING (starring Matthew McConaughey, Alan Arkin, and John Turturo) and LEVITY (starring Billy Bob Thornton, Morgan Freeman, Kirstin Dunst, and Holly Hunter).  Most recently, Doug served as producer of DREAMLAND, which premiered at Sundance in January of 2006 and KERALA (in production in India).

 

In 1997 Doug started Echo Lake Productions by raising a private equity fund to finance and produce independent films.  Since then, the company has helped finance the production and release of over twenty films.  In January of 2006, Doug formed Echo Lake Management, which Mike Marcus (formerly of CAA and MGM) is heading.

Before founding Echo Lake, Doug worked for film financier and former Monkee Michael Nesmith managing Nesmith’s library of film and television properties. Doug received a B.A. in history from Duke University and then attended the graduate film program at NYU. He later received his MBA from Harvard.

 

A native of Dallas, Doug lives with his wife and three children in Los Angeles.


Andrew Spaulding, Executive Vice President

Andrew Spaulding joined Echo Lake Productions in 2001 and serves as the company’s Executive Vice-President. Before joining Echo Lake, Andrew served as vice-president of the independent production company founded by veteran producer A. Kitman Ho (ALI, PLATOON). While working with Ho, Andrew worked on the production of Kathryn Bigelow's THE WEIGHT OF WATER starring Sean Penn, Josh Lucas, and Elizabeth Hurley, as well as Jonathan Kaplan’s BROKEDOWN PALACE, starring Claire Danes and Kate Beckinsale. Andrew previously served as an executive at the production companies of director Antonia Bird (PRIEST, MAD LOVE), actress Faye Dunaway, and best-selling novelist Patricia Cornwell.

Prior to moving to
Los Angeles, Andrew served as the Film Commissioner for the State of Virginia . A native of Fairfax , Virginia , Andrew began his career in politics, and served for two years on the personal staff of Virginia Governor Charles Robb. Andrew is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where he earned his B.A. in American Government.

Jessica Stamen, Vice President - Development

Before joining Echo Lake in 2003, Jessica Stamen worked as Director of Development for Starz Pictures, where she was involved in the development and production of original films such as JOE AND MAX and TORTILLA SOUP for the Starz cable network. Prior to that, Jessica was an executive at Davis Entertainment (COURAGE UNDER FIRE, DR. DOLITTLE) in both the feature film and television divisions. She is a graduate of Vassar College, where she earned a BA in English Literature.

Amotz Zakai, Vice President - Production / Manager

In addition to seeking new projects for Echo Lake, Amotz Zakai spearheads the company’s search for international directors looking to make English language films. Born in Jerusalem, Amotz served as a Lieutenant in the Israel Defense Force for four years. Following that, Amotz produced and directed an award-winning documentary and two digital films. Amotz received his BFA from The Rochester Institute of Technology School of Film and Animation and his MFA from the Peter Stark Producing Program at the University of Southern California. He's appeared on panels at numerous film festivals and teaches industry-related UCLA Extension courses. Amotz is also an active volunteer in the community.

Mike Marcus – Manager

Joining Echo Lake Productions to helm their management division in 2006, Mike Marcus brings over thirty years experience in the entertainment industry, starting with General Artists Corporation in 1968.  Upon the merger of General Artists Corp. with Creative Management Associates, Mr. Marcus was promoted to Agent.  In 1972, he jointed the Bart/Levy agency, which became the Kohner/Levy Agency in 1977.  He became full partner of the renamed Kohner/Levy/Marcus Agency in 1980. 

In 1981, he accepted the position of Senior Agent at the Creative Artists Agency, where he had among his clients Tom Cruise, Sydney Pollack, Robin Williams, Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks, John Landis, David Cronenberg, Roger Donaldson, Michael Apted, Frank Oz, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker.  Mr. Marcus also packaged such movies as Terry Gilliam’s Academy AwardŽ winning The Fisher King, John Landis’ comedy blockbuster Trading Places, and An American Werewolf in London, and David Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers.

 In 1993, Mr. Marcus was named President and Chief Operating Officer of MGM Pictures, where he oversaw the release of such films as the smash hit comedy Get Shorty, the thriller Species, which at that time had the biggest opening weekend of any MGM film in history, Kingpin, which landed on Gene Siskel’s 10 Best List, the critically acclaimed 2 Days in the Valley, and the hit sci-fi actioner Stargate.  After his MGM tenure, Mr. Marcus was a partner at MBST Entertainment, which produced Good Morning, Vietnam and Throw Mama from the Train, where, in addition to production, he was involved in managing clients of the company including Robin Williams and Billy Crystal. 

In October 1999, Mr. Marcus formed Cornice Entertainment, a motion picture and television production and management company.  In 2000, he also formed the feature film Distribution Company MAC Releasing, which in the summer of 2004 merged with ThinkFilm (a Canadian based Distribution Company) and became the co-head of its west coast office in addition to his production and management activities.

Mr. Marcus serves on the Board of Directors of the Environmental Media Association as well as the Board of Visitors of the College of Communications at Pennsylvania State University.  He has also served on the board of the Wellness Community and the Will Vinton Studios.
